Patrick Hubbel pulls inspiration from his childhood and his background and chats with us about the pieces he has in the NATIVE(X) gallery.

Tell us about your background and where you grew up?
I was born in Mesa, Arizona, while my mother and father were going to school and working, but I always considered myself to be originally from Navajo, New Mexico. I grew up around grandmother's home there within the canyon area, We call it To' dildoo'. I also grew up in Window Rock, Arizona. I have two older sisters and one younger brother. We moved around a lot in my early...

Troy Whitethorne's takes inspiration from his childhood and the traditional values his grandparents passed down to him and his siblings. We got on the line with Troy to see what he has planned for 2013.
Tell me about what influenced you to become an artist?
Well, I’ve been painting since five and I can’t stop. It’s a passion of mine. I have family members who paint--Dad, uncles and aunties. As far back as I can remember, art is the thing I crave and love. It’s part of me, like air or water is a part of the earth we live on.
How did...

Jaque Fragua, an acclaimed multi-media artist from New Mexico produced an exclusive set of mixed media pieces called "Separate Savage Realities" for the NATIVE(X) Gallery.
Tell me a little bit about your background, where you grew up, and what inspired you to become an artist?
I am from Jemez Pueblo, New Mexico. This is a little reservation about 45 minutes northwest of Albuquerque. I was born in the Santa Fe Indian hospital. I grew up mostly on-reservation, although I have moved on and off to places like Houston, Denver, and Albuquerque.
